Winter Run 2024

My Activity Tracking

Race day magic!

Woke up and was actually feeling a little nervous about this one. I think because of the fundraising, it hit different to normal. I kept thinking, it’s just a 10km, but with such supportive and generous, family, friends and colleagues, I really wanted to do a good run for everyone who so kindly donated.

Train disruptions and cold weather couldn’t dampen my enthusiasm and at the start line, I was just determined to push myself to try and get within 45 minutes. So I was delighted to finish in 43 minutes and 59 seconds and then to see I even had negative splits. Part of me thinks it was because I just had a lucky day, the other part is because I had such great support going into this. I topped it off by getting a finishing photo by the war memorial which also felt very special to me.

I cannot express how much I appreciate all the generosity and encouragement everyone has given me for such a great cause. Thank you so so much!

Back to Vicky P!

Today I returned to Victoria Park in Hackney Wick, looking to improve on my respectable December time of 1:45 on the same course, but I woke up this morning with about as much energy as Joe Biden at a press conference. That said, I wasn’t going to be defeated, and even a bit of engineering works (no overground from Stratford to Hackney) and a bit of pre-race rain could stop me. I set off with limited expectations given my mood but soon got into my groove and unintentionally helped pace a fellow runner doing his first half marathon. I was comfortably finished in 1:38:18 and left feeling quite pleased with myself. Two weeks until race day - so next weekend will be one of prepping and hopefully resting! Thanks to everyone who has already donated and kept me motivated!

Another week, another race ticked off!

On Saturday, February 3, I was back at the Olympic Park in Stratford for another 10km race. Despite suffering with a heavy cold, I managed to get round in 45 mins. 14 seconds which is a good sign going into the London Winter Run in a couple of weeks time.

A few drinks at a George Michael tribute concert on Saturday evening was that bit of balance I needed after running…however on Sunday, I had to get a 10 miler in for a piece of work the organisers of the Manchester Marathon are doing. Nevertheless I got it done and was feeling good still!

Out this morning for my usual 5 miles before work, a great way to start the week.

Fundraising and events begin

Thanks to my employer for donating my volunteering hours from 2023 to CRUK for this cause.

I kicked off the fundraising events on Saturday, at RunThrough's Lee Valley Half Marathon, and have a few more events coming up in the interim. If you are able to sponsor me it would be very much appreciated!
