Fifth year: let's go!
For the 5th year in a row, I'll be fundraising for Cancer Research UK to support their vital work.
Several loved ones have received cancer diagnoses over the past few years, while some are in remission by now, most of them would have benefited from receiving necessary interventions sooner. Misconceptions around screening procedures had a major role to play in this.
Dad got his advanced cancer prognosis almost a decade ago. Without a doubt, it was daunting in many ways to go through multiple surgeries, treatment cycles and symptom management, we truly appreciate organisations such as CRUK who funded crucial research, offering treatment options at different stages and allowing his cancer care team to make informed decisions with his best interest in mind.
This year's run feels different in more than one way, especially as Dad is no longer around to wish me luck before the run. That said, I hope to continually contribute to efforts in funding research and policy development around cancer prevention, detection and treatment.
