Story
Cancer has always felt personal to me.
Coming from a family with a history of cancer and diabetes, I sometimes wonder what the future holds for me. Will I develop one of these conditions, or will I be fortunate enough to avoid them? It’s a difficult uncertainty to live with, especially when I’ve witnessed firsthand how cancer can change the life of someone I love.
My mum survived cancer, but I saw how much it changed her life. 💗
From being a happy and energetic person, I saw her struggle with the effects of the illness. I saw how she could be misunderstood and how she tried her best not to become a burden to anyone. Cancer affected more than her physical health; it changed her everyday life, too.
Those experiences have stayed with me.
Although my mum is in the Philippines and I’m here in the UK, the distance doesn’t make her experience any less personal. Cancer doesn’t recognise borders. It affects families everywhere, regardless of where they live or the resources available to them..🏃 That’s why I’m taking on the Cancer Research UK Winter Run next year and raising funds for cancer research:

Cancer has always felt personal to me.
Coming from a family with a history of cancer and diabetes, I sometimes find myself wondering what the future holds for me. Will I develop one of these conditions, or will I be fortunate enough to avoid them? Living with that uncertainty is not easy, especially when I have witnessed firsthand how cancer can change the life of someone you love.
For me, cancer is not just a disease. It is something that has touched my family and changed the way I see life.
My mum was diagnosed with cancer, and although she survived, I witnessed how much the illness changed her life. I remember her as a happy and energetic person, but I also saw the struggles that came with her illness. I saw how she could be misunderstood, how she tried not to become a burden to anyone, and how cancer affected not only her health but also her confidence, independence, and everyday life.
Those experiences have stayed with me.
Even though my mum is in the Philippines and I am here in the UK, the distance does not make her experience any less personal to me. If anything, it reminds me that cancer does not recognise borders. It affects families everywhere, regardless of where they live or how much access they have to healthcare.
That is one of the reasons I want to take part in the Cancer Research UK Winter Run next year and raise funds for cancer research.
I am taking on the Cancer Research UK London Winter Run 2027.
Please donate to my page to help me raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK and support me as I train for a 10k on 21st February 2027.
Nearly 1 in 2 people will get cancer in their lifetime*. All of us can support the research that will beat it.
Thank you for supporting me! Together we are beating cancer.
